SoundPhone is not really a program at all. It is just a collection of sounds and customized icons. The sounds are the usual sounds sent by tone dial phones. If you put the mouthpiece of your phone next to the speaker you can dial numbers by double-clicking the sound files.
What can I use it for?
While this program might seem utterly useless (after all you could just dial the numbers on the phone as usual) I can see some situations where it would come in handy.
1) People who have pulse dial phones sometimes need to produce tone dial signals. (For example, when talking to one of those marvellously intelligent automatic answering systems.)
2) You could write an AppleScript that plays several of the sounds in sequence, dialing a phone number. You could keep a number of such scripts in the Apple Menu or any other place of easy access, making it easy to quickly dial common phone numbers. (A sample Apple Script is included in the distribution.)
3) If you are a developer who wish to write an application that can dial phone numbers you will appreciate not having to create these files yourself (as I had to do). You may use these files freely in your application, but you must make me a registered owner if you do so.
4) You could be one of those technophiliacs who think that everything is done better when done with a computer. (Carriers of this not-to-rare disease can be spotted by their tendency to use laser-printed grocery lists.)
What are those A, B, C, D buttons?
The international standard for tone dialing actually includes these four extra buttons. I'm not sure whether they are used anywhere, so I added them just to be safe. If you don't need them you can just throw them away.
Where is my R button?
Phones in Sweden (and in other countries?) have a R button that performs some special functions. I would like to include it on the key pad, but unfortunately this is not possible, since the R button doesn't send a tone at all. Instead, it produces a break in the line current lasting 90 ± 40 ms and this behaviour cannot be simulated by sound files.
How much do I owe you?
SoundPhone is freeware. You may use it, copy it and distribute it freely, but you may not charge anything for it. If you distribute it in a CD-ROM shareware collection or similar, you may not charge more for the collection than the cost of compiling it.
If you use these sound files in a shareware program or a commercial program, you must make me a fully registered owner of that program.

What about OrgaNicer?
SoundPhone was created as a spin-off project when I tried to add dialing capabilities to my program OrgaNicer. A new version of OrgaNicer which supports dialing will soon be released.
